Hello beauty —
Today, I want to share some of my favourite natural personal care and beauty products with you! A few years ago, I spent so much time figuring out what harmful ingredients were in my existing products, and what products could be swapped out for safer ones. It was a lot of trial and error to find products that actually worked, so I am always so happy to share this info with whoever cares enough (not everyone realizes that conventional products are so laden with chemicals that are bad for, not only our health but the health of our offspring and our planet). So here are 5 safer products that really out-perform, or perform as good, as what I was once using. Bonus, they’re affordable too!
Trust me when I say… if you are looking for a deodorant that works (and I mean, anti-stink and a fairly good anti-sweat), this is the one. I have tried multiple (sigh *mul-ti-ple*) natural deodorants that did not work (including ones that were a pretty penny), but since trying this one, I’ve never looked back. I love their bergamont + lime scent but have tried a number of them and enjoyed them all, truly.
You may not realize that your conventional toothpaste contains sodium lauryl sulphate, fluoride, and triclosan. These ingredients have been linked to peri-oral dermatitis, which so many of my clients have struggled with in the past. Triclosan, specifically, has recently been shown to cause antibiotic-resistant germs in the mouth and has also been studied for its effect on the endocrine, immune, and cardiovascular system. I have not tried a ton of different all-natural toothpastes because once I tried Green Beaver, I loved it and have continued to use it to this day. I love the frosty mint flavour! I feel refreshed and I’ve never suffered from any irritation in or around my mouth as a result. If you are afraid it won’t clean as well as conventional toothpaste, consider this: it had been 2 years since my last dental visit (shame, shame, I know…but listen up;))… when I finally went for a routine cleaning, my hygienist asked if I had been cheating on the clinic with another dentist because my teeth were so clean! Now, I’m not encouraging you to ditch your dentist, but a clean toothpaste + routine flossing will definitely keep your pearly whites, white, and the bacteria in your mouth at bay.
Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your dry shampoo? Butane, isobutene, propane (!!!!!), and parfum – just to name a few. The second I realized I was spraying GAS (yes, gas!!!) on my scalp, I vowed to myself to never use this product again. But I still wanted to spare my hair from a day or two’s worth of washing. Solution? Arrowroot powder! You can stock up for cooking and set aside a little for your bathroom 😉 it’s been a life-saver during my morning routine as of late.
I’m pretty obsessed with natural skincare but will say the most affordable + effective face wash I’ve tried is the Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser. If you’re looking for a basic, take-the-day-off face wash for normal skin while keeping to a budget, let me inform you, your search is over. Though the bottle looks small, you need less than a dime size amount – this product will last you 2-3 months at least!
There you have it, lovely. These simple swaps will keep you chemical-free while doing the job they’re supposed to do + and then some! Let me know if you give these products a go, or share some of your personal natural swaps below! I’d love to know, xo
